Design Technology
Design and technology is an inspiring, engaging and practical subject that can cover a wide range of practical activities. Using creativity and imagination, students have the opportunity to design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values. Students will also have the opportunity to develop lifelong interests such as Aero Modelling for example.
Students acquire a broad range of subject knowledge and draw on other curriculum areas such as mathematics, science, engineering, computing and art. Students learn how to take risks, becoming resourceful, innovative, enterprising and capable individuals. Through the evaluation of past and present design and technology, they develop a critical understanding of its impact on daily life and the wider world. High-quality design and technology education makes an essential contribution to the creativity, culture, wealth and well-being of an individual.
Whilst studying Design and Technology at Springfield our students will have the opportunity to study BTEC courses and gain awards as they progress through year 11. These BTEC qualifications will help guide and inform them towards post 16 courses and training decisions.
